Chairman’s Planning Guide Project: Write-Up (7/25/96) PLANNING 1. PRIMARY PURPOSE. (WHAT IS THE ONE REASON YOU WANT TO SUCCESSFULLY RUN THIS PROJECT?) The primary purpose of this project is to have members practice writing skills in an impromptu situation. 2. GIVE A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PROPOSED PROJECT AND BACKGROUND INFORMATION. FOLLOW THIS WITH A LIST OF THE SPECIFIC AND MEASURABLE GOALS TO BE ACCOMPLISHED BY THIS PROJECT. (EXAMPLE: TO INVOLVE 25 JAYCEES.) Each member will be asked to write a brief biography/introduction, to be included on the chapter’s new Internet Home Page on the World Wide Web. This Write-Up will be done during a General Membership Meeting. Members will not be told what they are supposed to write ahead of time. There will not be any specific guidelines for what should be written. Members will be asked, “If you were introduced to someone new, and they said ‘Tell me about yourself.’ what would you tell them?” This project will assist in attaining the goal “____________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________” in the __________________________________ Pinnacle Area, under the __________________________________________ Area, as outlined in the 1996-1997 Chapter Planning Guide for the West St. Louis County Jaycees. This Pinnacle Area corresponds to the CPG Category of _____________________________________________. Goals: A. To have 10 Jaycees participate in the project. B. If a detailed explanation is desired, schedule another ID project “Overview of the Internet”. Problem: Sometimes people are given a Write-Up topic to finish at home, and they never turn it back in. Solution: Give everyone 10-15 minutes to complete the Write-Up during the meeting. 6. COMPLETE A PROPOSED BUDGET INDICATING ALL ANTICIPATED INCOME AND EXPENSE. (NOTE: INCOME SHOULD EQUAL EXPENSE.) IMPLEMENTATION AND EVALUATION 8. RECORD ANY REVISION OF THE ORIGINAL PLAN. No revisions were needed. 9. WHAT CHANGES OR RECOMMENDATIONS DO YOU HAVE FOR A FUTURE CHAIRMAN? I think the topic was a little too open-ended. Many people were stumped for what to write. If we do this again, I’d suggest having a list of suggested items (where do you work? where did you go to school? are you married? children? etc.) that people can start with. Once people got started writing, it went very well. 10. GIVE SPECIFIC AND MEASURABLE RESULTS FOR EACH GOAL ESTABLISHED. DESCRIBE THE IMPACT OF THIS PROJECT ON THE CHAPTER, INDIVIDUAL MEMBERS, AND THE COMMUNITY. Goal Results: A. To have 10 Jaycees participate in the project. This goal was not met. 8 Jaycees participated. B. To have all Jaycees complete their Write-Up during the meeting. This goal was met. All 8 members turned in their Write-Up by the end of the meeting. C. To run the project at no cost to the chapter. This goal was met. Project Impact: This project involved 8 Jaycees, which is 13% of our chapter, and no non-Jaycees. Benefit to the Individual: The individual benefits by practicing his or her writing skills. Having to write off the top of your head teaches you to think quickly. This can be very helpful, especially in today’s environment, when more people are communicating more and more by written e-mail. Benefit to the Chapter: The chapter benefits by having information about its members to post on the Internet. This will tell people reading the Home Page what kind of people are proud to be members of West St. Louis County. The chapter also benefits when its members can use their writing skills to request donations from various businesses. Benefit to the Community: The community benefits in two ways. People from the community that read the chapter’s Home Page will be able to learn about the type of people that join the Jaycees. This may make them more comfortable asking for the chapter’s help, or joining themselves. The community also benefits when the chapter’s members can use their writing skills to assist with projects that benefit the community, such as requesting donations from businesses.
